soccer fields, a 2-mile bike trail, 1.5-mile nature trail, 5K
championship cross country course (McAlpine Creek Greenway connects
to James Boyce Park) Lake, bike/walking trail, sports
fields accent this park. On Saturdays, you can often find team
sports going on here, or go across the wheelchair accessible bridge
to come over to the lake side. Here you will find hiking and
bike trails, a walking trail around the lake, or choose to get on
the 7-mile McAlpine Greenway bike trail. The
McAlpine Greenway bike trail starts behind Heritage Woods with
multiple access points, travels behind Sardis by the Park and Sardis
Woods, under Monroe Road, through McAlpine Park, under Independence
Blvd., behind Best Buy, across Margaret Wallace Rd, over to and
along Harris Blvd up nearly to Idlewild Rd. If
just enjoy sitting around with a fishing pole in your hand, you can
do that here for a $1 for a day
pass you can catch up to the creel limit of 6 catfish. Of
course season passes are also available and good anywhere in North
Carolina. If you are lucky, you'll run into our little friend
here to the right. Or around the lake, you will always find
geese or ducks to feed Don't
leave your big friends at home either, as there are plenty of dog
walking going on here. But do keep them on a
leash... at least until you register and enter McAlpine's new poochy
park. The new facility is an estimated 2-3 acres of
semi-cleared land, behind fence and double-gates where you can
release ol' Scruffy to run like the racehorse he thinks he is.
This is a dogs and owners only part of the park though there are
outside benches for observers. To get a free poochy pass,
Scruffy has to have a valid rabies and license tag. Download
